The Elden Ring’s Great Runes and Rune Arcs are a mystery for much of the game. Most players don’t know what to do with these 2 items when they first get them.

What Does Great Rune Do?
The main bosses in the Lands Between drop Remembrances and Greate Runes. Each Great Rune offers a unique bonus such as increasing HP, and attributes. A Great Rune offers passive effects that are always active as long as the rune is equipped.
There’s another step needed to get the benefit. After getting a Great Rune from a boss, you need to restore the power of the rune before equipping it. To do so, you need to take them to certain locations in the world and offer them up at specific places known as Divine Towers.
Only then will their true power be unlocked. Some of the effects a Greate Rune can offer include increased strength, speed, and stamina; enhanced resistance to damage; and improved healing rates.
But you need a Rune Arc to activate the benefits from these Great Runes.
What Does Rune Arc Do?
A Rune Arc is required to use with a Great Rune after it is equipped in any Site of Grace. Once activated, the Greate Rune will begin providing its benefits immediately.
Rune Arcs are fairly rare items that can be dropped from enemies or found in chests. Merchants in Roundtable Hold and Liurnia of the Lakes are the best places to acquire it. Each Rune Arc item will cost you 4,000 Runes.
After equipping a Greate Rune, you can open the Inventory and use a Rune Arc like any normal item to activate.

Here are the Great Runes we’ve found so far, along with the effects they offer and where to restore them:
Godrick’s Great Rune
- Boss: Godrick the Grafted
- Effect: Raises all attributes
- Where to restore: Divine Tower of Limgrave
Great Rune of the Unborn
- Boss: Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon
- Effect: Used to perfect rebirth
- Where to restore: N/A as it automatically allows you to respec
Radahn’s Great Rune
- Boss: Starscourge Radahn
- Effect: Raises maximum HP, FP, and Stamina
- Where to restore: Divine Tower of Caelid
Morgott’s Great Rune
- Boss: Morgott, the Omen King
- Effect: Greatly raises maximum HP
- Where to restore: Divine Tower of East Atlus
Rykard’s Great Rune
- Boss: Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy
- Effect: Restores HP upon defeating enemies
- Where to restore: Divine Tower of West Atlus
Mogh’s Great Rune
- Boss: Mogh, Lord of Blood
- Effect: Grants a blessing of blood to phantoms
- Where to restore: Divine Tower of East Atlus
Malenia’s Great Rune
- Boss: Malenia, Blade of Miquella
- Effect: Attacks dealt after taking damage to recover HP
- Where to restore: Isolated Divine Tower
