Legion Go S

Lenovo is set to expand its gaming handheld portfolio with the Legion Go S, a more affordable variant that strategically streamlines design elements from its predecessor.

Preliminary technical insights reveal that this device will leverage the upcoming AMD Z2 platform, specifically the Z2G “Rembrandt” configuration. Equipped with a promising AMD APU featuring 8 cores based on the Zen 3+ architecture and potentially incorporating RDNA 2.0 graphics through the Radeon 680M integrated GPU, the Legion Go S appears poised to deliver competitive performance while maintaining a more accessible price point for budget-minded consumers and gaming enthusiasts.

The Legion Go S marks a significant departure from its predecessor’s design. Where the original Legion Go featured innovative elements like detachable controllers and a built-in kickstand, the new model takes a more minimalist approach. Visually, the device adopts a white colorway similar to the ASUS ROG Ally, which interestingly contrasts with the black design of the upgraded ROG Ally X. This color choice suggests a premium feel despite the device’s cost-cutting measures.

One of the most intriguing aspects of the Legion Go S is its screen size. With the 8ARP1 codename suggesting an 8-inch display, the device might actually offer a slightly larger screen than the ROG Ally’s 7-inch panel. This potential increase in screen real estate is unexpected for a more budget-friendly model and could be a pleasant surprise for potential buyers.

Lenovo has made some practical adjustments to the device’s layout. The USB-C ports will now be positioned on top of the device, and the menu and view buttons have been repositioned toward the top.
